An 8-week course

In this 8-week course, students will learn the principles of colour and light.

Through daily lectures, demos, and assignments, students will learn how to play with colour and light to be able to visually express their ideas and emotions to the viewer;
whether it is for a picture book or for individual images.

We'll learn to tell a story using colour and light in an emotionally engaging way.

This class includes weekly personalised feedback.


The program will be focused on:

- Understanding values.

- Use and importance of colour temperatures.

- Colour theory. Creating strong and solid local colour compositions.

- Lighting principles.

- Self expression in visual storytelling.

- Mood through lighting.

- Creating interesting textures.

- Narrative and storytelling.

- Colour script principles and how I use them in illustration.

- The importance of painting traditionally.

- Photoshop and Procreate essentials.

- My painting process.

- Printing our digital artworks.

- Where digital and traditional merge.

- Group discussions about all the above's different topics.

- Demos.

- Special guests.

  • Duration:

    8 weeks

  • Date & Time

    Every Tuesday, online.
    Starting on April 9th, 2024 from 2-5pm (GMT+1)

    Class recordings will be provided the next day.

  • Skill level:

    All skill levels are welcome.

  • Students:

    Spots are limited to 29.

  • Format:

    3 hour live online classes with combination of lectures, demos, and personal feedback.
    Recordings will be provided within 24 hours of each class.

    Feedback will be sent individually over email each week.

    Personalised feedbacks can be both in English or Spanish.

  • Materials:

    Any digital or traditional media is welcome. Feedback will be given digitally.
    Students will need a computer with camera (optional but encouraged) and microphone.

  • Communication:

    There will be a Discord channel for us to share our work, share inspiration, links to all the documents from the class, questions, etc.

  • Week 1: Values. Understanding values and their role in colour composition.

    Week 2: Colour theory. The uses of different temperatures. Transition colours.

    Week 3: Self expression in visual storytelling. Colour composition.
    Week 4: Creating interesting textures. Photoshop and Procreate essentials.

    Week 5: Understanding light. Types of light and how to use them in our paintings.
    Week 6: Mood through lighting. Demo.

    Week 7: Colour script and how I use them in illustration projects.

    Week 8: Wrap-up class. Finishing our projects together. Q&A.
